Asteroids@home is a volunteer distributed computing project developed at the Astronomical Institute, Charles University in Prague, in cooperation with Radim Vančo from CzechNationalTeam. The project is directed by Josef Durech. It runs on the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC) software platform and uses power of volunteers' computers to solve the light curve inversion problem for many asteroids.

From the front page:
"Dear friends, as many of you already noticed, the Asteroids@home project has been down for several days now. The reason is an unexpected hardware failure of one of our servers. This machine has served us devotedly non-stop for many years, but its life came to the end. Now we need to replace it and it will take some time. Covid-19 situation makes things even more difficult as there are so many ongoing restrictions and administrative obstacles that we cannot be sure of any plans or schedules for the next few months to come. We will still try to do our best to find some temporary solution but we cannot guarantee any date. And we will still need to find a final and stable solution after that. Thank you for your patience.

We hope to be back soon! The Asteroids@home team."

The project is coming back to life. The forums are working and there is communication with the BOINC Client:

Front page news...
Radim Vanco (FoxKyong) wrote:The project is temporarily down.

I am very sorry to inform you that the project is temporarily down. The database system was still running on a temporary hardware solution which failed a few days ago and the hardware is dead. We still don't have the planned new server and due to holidays and other circumstances we can't hurry anything up. New server should be available on Septemember or October so project will propably be down until then. We don't have any sufficient hardware for other temporary solution and I also think that the best solution is to get the project online when it is finally on a new stable hardware because I know that the project outages every few weeks are very frustrating.

I will post here later any new information when available.

Update - 02-12-2021

Project servers are currently offline for longer period than expected. The main reason is that waiting for a new server took longer than expected. We finally have a new server but it will still take some time to start the project again. The new server will be at a different location than old servers are, all the project data have to be transferred there and BOINC server must be upgraded to the latest version before running up again. The project was running on three servers which two of them crashed. BOINC project data was using those two bad servers, non-BOINC project data was on the third server. New server will be running BOINC project data from both bad servers.

I am sorry I didn't post any news earlier. If needed I will post additional information here. I suppose that the project will be ready to continue by the end of month. This website is now running temporary on a Raspberry Pi and will switch to a new server when ready.
