מטריצת ביטוי המורכבת מערכי הביטוי של 3000 גנים (שורות המטריצה) ומ-619 דגימות שנלקחו מסרטן שד של חולות (עמודות המטריצה). צבעו של כל תא במטריצה מייצג את רמת הביטוי (כמות הm-RNA) של גן מסוים בדגימה מסויימת (צבעים חמים מייצגים רמות ביטוי גבוהות).
ניתן לראות שהן הגנים והן הדגימות מסודרים כשהם מקובצים ל-5 קבוצות. זאת מפני שהמטריצה מסודרת על פי תוצאות אלגוריתם קיבוץ בשם KMeans עם פרמטר K=5 אשר קיבץ את הגנים ואת העמודות ל-5 קבוצות בעלות דימיון פנימי גבוה.
