BOINC Projects Wiki and Forum Now Integrated into BOINC Synergy

We’re excited to share some big news with our community: the BOINC Projects wiki and the BOINC Synergy Forum have officially been moved and fully integrated into our main BOINC Synergy website!

Over the years, our wiki and forum have served as important resources – places to share project information, collaborate, and connect with other volunteers. However, maintaining separate platforms came with challenges: security updates, increased server load, and the need to modernize our user experience. After careful planning, we decided to bring everything together under one roof.

Why we made this change

By consolidating the wiki and forum into the main BOINC Synergy site, we’ve greatly simplified site maintenance and enhanced security. We can now focus on providing faster, more reliable content without worrying about separate software updates or compatibility issues.

Additionally, merging everything makes it easier for visitors to find information in one central location. Our new structure is more accessible, more visually consistent, and easier to navigate – especially for new team members or curious visitors who want to explore BOINC projects.

What’s new and improved

One of the most exciting outcomes of this move is the beautifully converted wiki content. We are especially proud of how the tables turned out. The original tables, written in wiki code, have been fully transformed to match the look and function of the old wiki – including sortable columns! Whether you’re comparing project stats or scanning lists of available subprojects, the new tables are clean, modern, and work just as you remember.

Beyond the tables, all images, formatting, and project details have been preserved or enhanced, giving the pages a fresh and professional look while keeping that familiar feel.

Redirects and updated links

Don’t worry about your BOINC Projects wiki bookmarks! All old wiki links will automatically resolve to the new project pages on our main site.

Our forum has been archived here and the original BOINC Projects wiki here. I’s good to have them to refer to.

Looking ahead

We’re thrilled with how smoothly this transition went and how beautiful the outcome turned out to be. The new integrated platform not only honors the rich history of BOINC Synergy but also sets us up for a stronger future. We can’t wait for you to explore the updated pages, revisit old favorites, and discover new information.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout this process. Your patience and enthusiasm keep us going.

Go ahead and leave a comment below. Happy crunching, and see you in the new pages!

SETI@home Publishes Landmark Papers: A Historic Moment

We are thrilled to share some historic news from the SETI@home project – an initiative that has been close to our hearts since the beginning.

Two major papers on SETI@home have been accepted for publication in The Astronomical Journal, one of the most respected scientific journals in the field. These papers represent the culmination of more than two decades of volunteer computing, scientific innovation, and global collaboration.

📄 The Papers

1️⃣ SETI@home: Data Acquisition and Front-End Processing
This paper describes how SETI@home collected data from radio telescopes, split it into manageable chunks, and distributed it to millions of volunteers worldwide (including us!). It covers the different detection types, their parameters, and the algorithms that powered the search for extraterrestrial signals.

2️⃣ SETI@home: Data Analysis and Findings
The second paper focuses on what happened after all that data was crunched. It introduces Nebula, SETI@home’s backend system for candidate analysis, RFI (radio frequency interference) removal, and signal ranking. It also discusses how artificial test signals (“birdies”) were used to tune and validate the analysis methods.

🔭 A New Level of Scientific Rigor

These papers are not just technical reports. They rigorously examine the project’s ability to detect extraterrestrial signals, define what “candidate sensitivity” means, and outline lessons learned for future sky surveys.

In a way, they close a monumental chapter and validate the massive volunteer effort that powered SETI@home for so many years – an effort that included many, many years of processing time from our team.

💙 A Special Moment for BOINC Synergy

Our team, originally known as SETI Synergy, was formed specifically to support SETI@home’s mission to search for intelligent life beyond Earth. We have been contributing work units since the earliest days and have watched the project evolve from a bold experiment to a groundbreaking citizen science phenomenon.

The publication of these papers feels like a shared victory. It gives deep meaning to the CPU cycles, electric bills, and collective enthusiasm that fueled SETI@home for over two decades.

🌌 Looking Ahead

There’s still more to come. SETI@home is collaborating with the FAST telescope in China to reobserve the top 92 candidate signals identified by Nebula. While it’s unlikely we will discover an extraterrestrial beacon this time, the work continues to push the boundaries of science and inspire future generations.

💬 Reflecting on Our Shared Journey

As David Anderson beautifully put it, SETI@home represents “a million people reaching out together into space, hoping to find other minds.” We at BOINC Synergy are proud to have been part of that journey.

To all our members past and present – thank you for your dedication, passion, and belief in the search for something greater. Let’s celebrate this milestone together and look forward to the next chapter in humanity’s quest to answer one of the biggest questions: Are we alone?

All WCG points of the Mapping Cancer Markers (MCM) sub-project that were credited during the challenge are counted, even if the WU was already calculated before the start of the challenge. However, WUs that are pending at the end of the challenge cannot be taken into account!

More information and statistics regarding the challenge can be found here. https://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/1_en_Welcome.html

Your participation is very much appreciated

Best regards
